The Telegraph has published an article entitled ‘‘The mad rush for solar needs to stop’: how Miliband threatens to ruin the rural idyll’
It can be seen here (subscription may be necessary), and says that residents on the Cambridgeshire-Suffolk border are opposing the construction of one of Britain’s largest solar and battery storage farms, fearing it will impact livelihoods, house sales, and safety. The 500-megawatt project, spanning 15 miles and affecting 16 parishes, is significantly larger than the UK’s current largest solar farm.
Despite independent inspectors advising against it and local opposition, the government approved the project. Concerns include the safety of over 100 lithium-ion battery containers, potential toxic gas emissions, and the loss of valuable agricultural land. Critics argue the lack of UK standards for battery storage increases risks, while Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and the government push for rapid solar expansion to meet net zero targets.
Residents argue the project’s negative impacts on local economies and property values have been overlooked.
