Don’t forget – Mandatory Action: Companies House Identity Verification

From 18 November 2025, if you’re a company director or a person with significant control (PSC), you must verify your identity by your due date.

The Companies House register will be updated on 18 November 2025 to show the due dates for each role you hold.

Who and When Must Verify
Role Deadline
Company Director You must verify your identity by your due date. You will not be able to file your company’s Confirmation Statement after 18 November 2025 unless all directors have verified their identity and their personal codes are included.
Person with Significant Control (PSC) You must verify your identity by your due date. This will be updated on the Companies House register from 18 November 2025 to show the due date for each role you hold.
The 2-Step Verification Process

Identity verification is a one-off process that is simple, secure, and typically takes only a few minutes.

  1. Verify your identity to obtain your unique Companies House personal code.
  2. Provide your personal code to Companies House to confirm you are verified for each role you hold (director, PSC, etc.).

Note: If you have already verified your identity voluntarily, you only need to complete step 2 for each role.

How to Verify

There are two official methods to verify your identity:

  1. Online (Free): Use the ‘Verify your identity for Companies House’ service, which utilises GOV.UK One Login. This service will guide you through the process, often using photo ID like a passport or driving licence.
  2. Via Authorised Agent: You can ask an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), such as an accountant or solicitor, to verify your identity on your behalf. They may charge a fee for this service.
Consequences of Non-Compliance

It will become a legal requirement to verify your identity by the due date. Any director who continues to act without verifying their identity will be committing an offence. The company will also be committing an offence if it fails to rectify this, which may lead to prosecution and financial penalties for both the company and its directors.
