Grainger reacts to Kings Speech

Grainger plc, the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, has responded positively to the proposals outlined in the Labour Government’s King’s Speech, particularly regarding planning and rent reform.

Planning Reform: Helen Gordon, CEO of Grainger, welcomed the proposed changes aimed at speeding up housing delivery. The reforms focus on streamlining the planning system, ensuring local plans include housing targets, and eliminating planning uncertainties for compliant housing schemes. These measures align with Grainger’s strategy of developing housing on brownfield sites in urban areas with high demand.

Rent Reform: The confirmation of rent reform, coupled with the government’s rejection of rent controls, was also well-received by Grainger. Gordon highlighted that sensible rent reforms, which enhance tenants’ rights and improve standards, can provide greater certainty for both investors and landlords. She supported the abolition of no-fault evictions, provided there is a robust system to address poor tenant behavior, thereby protecting neighbors and communities.

Grainger’s response indicates strong support for measures that increase housing delivery certainty and improve the rental market’s stability and fairness
