No surprise that PRS dwellings in both England and Wales “had a higher percentage with no central heating and a lower percentage with mains gas compared with other tenure types”.
Many landlords provide rental homes with electric heating to minimise costs and compliance issues associated with renting properties with gas. This is compounded by the fact that “flats, maisonettes and apartments were most common in both private and social-rented dwellings” with most conversions and new builds now electric only, in preparation for the ban on fitting gas boilers in them from 2025.
With the Government’s commitment to cut carbon, it could be argued that landlords will be ahead of the curve when we are no longer permitted to heat our homes with fossil fuels.
