Housing Minister Pledges Support Ahead of Renters’ Rights Bill

The Renters’ Rights Bill, set to overhaul the private rented sector, is expected to gain Royal Assent this month – possibly as early as next week.

Housing minister Matthew Pennycook has promised clear guidance and sufficient notice for tenants, landlords, and agents as the new rules take effect. He confirmed that all existing tenancies will automatically convert to the new system on implementation day, with new tenancies also governed by the updated framework.

Pennycook said the government will work closely with the sector to ensure a smooth transition, recognising concerns around compliance, enforcement, and timescales.
