A landlord has been fined after a Central Bedfordshire Council investigation found serious breaches of the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.
The probe, launched in April 2024, concerned a property in Leighton Buzzard and uncovered evidence that landlord Stuart Lance Kellman had unlawfully deprived a tenant of access to their home and removed their belongings.
Appearing at Luton Magistrates’ Court, Kellman pleaded guilty to both offences and was fined, resulting in a criminal conviction.
A council spokesperson said: “This case reflects the seriousness of unlawful eviction and our determination to act against rogue landlords. Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure in their home, and we are committed to protecting that right.”
The council continues to encourage tenants to report any suspected unlawful evictions or landlord misconduct.
