Leasehold Reform Delayed Again, Expert Warns

Meaningful leasehold reform may be further away than ever, according to leasehold expert Linz Darlington, following a Westminster Hall debate where the government confirmed it has yet to launch a key consultation required to implement the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024.

Housing Minister Alex Norris gave no timeline, only stating that the government wants to “get it right”. Darlington criticised the delay, saying the consultation was expected months ago and that leaseholders continue to face unnecessary costs and uncertainty.

He also warned against shifting focus toward the longer-term goal of commonhold, while many leaseholders are still waiting for long-promised relief.
