Portsmouth landlord forced to remove triple-glazed windows

A landlord has criticised a council for ordering him to remove "energy efficient" triple-glazed windows.

Mike West replaced single-glazed sliding sash windows with UPVC triple-glazed ones while renovating his Victorian house in Southsea, Portsmouth.

    I absolutely agree with Mike, We own buildings in Brighton and all that are not in conservation areas have been double glazed with good quality mirror image plastic windows. The properties in conservation areas have been double glazed at the rear and now we want to do the fronts and the council will not allow it, they have refused planning permission even though properties adjacent and alongside have been done without planning permission. We are also concerned about the new regulations coming in for EPCs and this appears to go against all government guidelines. These conservation regulations should be updated to reflect the new improvements in the product, they can be made mirror image, we took a planning officer to a building 2 doors away from one of ours that had been done without permission about 6 years ago and he couldn’t tell that they were not the original wood frames until he was half way up the path, 3 yards away.
