Two Suffolk councils are collaborating to provide what they describe as “help” for both landlords and tenants in preparation for the upcoming Renters’ Rights Bill becoming law.
East Suffolk and West Suffolk Councils are encouraging private landlords concerned about the forthcoming legislation to get in touch for guidance and support.
As part of a joint initiative called Safe Suffolk Renters, the councils have launched a landlord liaison service, which includes a no-fee lettings service and guaranteed rent for private sector landlords and letting agents with available properties.
Additional support includes:

A deposit bond worth up to six weeks’ rent

Free regular property inspections, giving landlords peace of mind that their properties are being properly managed
This initiative aims to promote successful, stable tenancies and forms part of the councils’ wider efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness in the region.
Reassurance and Practical Support
Richard O’Driscoll, from West Suffolk Council, said:
“Private landlords are an important and integral part of how we collectively house our communities in West Suffolk. We know there have been lots of scary headlines about the national changes, but both West and East Suffolk Councils are here to help and support landlords through them.”
“Our West Suffolk Lettings Partnership, for example, is already managing 130 homes on behalf of landlords and letting agents at no cost. We offer guaranteed rent, regular checks, and support for both landlords and their tenants. The upcoming changes don’t need to be frightening – in fact, they’re a great reason to explore how working with us can benefit everyone involved.”
O’Driscoll added that this support also contributes directly to delivering West Suffolk’s Housing, Homelessness Reduction and Rough Sleeping Strategy.
David Beavan, from East Suffolk Council, echoed the sentiment:
“We want to help private landlords navigate the new legislation coming later this year. With falling interest rates and an urgent local need for housing, there will always be a place for responsible private lets in East Suffolk.”
“Rather than rushing to evict tenants and getting tied up in court proceedings, we encourage landlords to talk to us. We have resources and advice to help them prepare for the changes and explore alternatives to eviction, ensuring tenancies remain stable and successful.”
